Hajime Sakuma is a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Radiology, Mie University Graduate School of Medicine, a Vice President of Mie University and is a past President of Asian Society of Cardiovascular Imaging.
He graduated from Mie University School of Medicine and became a board certified radiologist in 1990. In 1991 he moved to Charles Higgins laboratory in University of California, San Francisco, and was engaged in a number of research activities in CMR, such as cardiac spectroscopy, k-space segmented fast cine MRI, myocardial perfusion MRI, coronary MRA and coronary flow measurements.
After 4-years and 5-months stay in San Francisco, he moved to Mie and promoted to an Associate Professor in 1998. He continued and expanded CMR research in Mie, with major fields of research including stress perfusion MRI, late gadolinium enhanced MRI, MR flow quantification, multi-center studies in whole heart coronary MRA and myocardial perfusion CT. He has more than 200 publications in international English journals, with citations of >300 in one year (2016). He successfully administered these research projects in collaboration with many international researchers in radiology, cardiology and cardiac surgery departments.
