Principal Clinical Scientist (MRI Physics)
Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine, United Kingdom
Dr David Broadbent is a clinical scientist in the MR physics group at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) and a visiting researcher in the Biomedical Imaging Sciences Department at the University of Leeds (UoL). After undergraduate studies in physics at the University of Oxford (2005-08) he moved to LTHT to complete clinical scientist training (2008-12) followed by an NIHR doctoral research fellowship (2012-15) at UoL. The latter focussed on quantitative contrast enhanced cardiac MRI. This remains his main area of research activity although he is also developing interests in cardiac MR spectroscopy and in utilising quantitative contrast MR techniques in skeletal muscle. He supports activity on the UoL's three clinical research MR scanners housed within the Leeds General Infirmary, predominantly in the newly established Advanced Imaging Centre. In his clinical scientist role he provides scientific and safety support to clinical MR services within LTHT, UoL and other institutions in the surrounding area, and has a focus on the use of MRI for radiotherapy treatment planning. He lectures at the University of Bradford and the Leeds/Bradford Radiology Academy and delivers training on the NHS Scientist Training Programme.
