Bruno B. Lima, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Vanderbilt University. He obtained his MD, Magna Cum Laude, and a PhD in Pharmacology from Universidade Federal do Ceará, Brazil. Dr. Lima completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a Clinical Fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at Emory University Hospital. He also pursued an Advanced Fellowship in Cardiovascular Imaging at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Lima is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, with additional certifications in Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiovascular CT, and Cardiovascular MR. In his academic role, he has contributed to the education of future physicians and is the Associate Program Director of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship at Vanderbilt University.
His research is primarily focused on Brain-Heart Axis translational research, where he combines advanced imaging, genomics, and pharmacology to explore the interconnections between neurological and cardiovascular systems. His work aims to discover new therapeutic targets and enhance clinical outcomes. Dr. Lima's significant research contributions are evident in his authorship of over 60 peer-reviewed publications, including impactful papers in journals like JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, Circulation, JAMA Cardiology, Biological Psychiatry, and Brain, Behavior & Immunity.
A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), Dr. Lima is deeply involved in the cardiology community and contributes extensively to medical literature and professional societies in his field.
