Dr. Timothy C. Wong is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He pursued his medical degree at NYU Langone School of Medicine, and completed his residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine there as well. He then completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease followed by an advanced cardiac imaging year at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. He directs both the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance programs in the HVI. His research interests include the comparative effectiveness of cardiovascular imaging, the use of novel cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging biomarkers to improve heart disease characterization, and participation in multicenter clinical trials of novel drug development targeting hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, with over 50 publications in leading journals including Circulation, JACC, and European Heart Journal. Under his leadership, the HCM center at UPMC grew from an initial 75 patients into a certified Center of Excellence with ~ 2000 patients. In parallel, he guided CMR program expansion from a single site to a systemwide cardiology-radiology collaboration comprising 6 sites throughout central and western Pennsylvania. He enjoys serving as an advocate for cardiac imaging, and cardiovascular healthcare professionals and patients at the national level. He represents the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance on the ACC Imaging Section leadership council, serves as an associate editor at the Journal of the American Heart Association, and is governor elect for the western PA ACC Chapter.
