Edward Hulten, MD, MPH is a cardiologist with Brown University Health Cardiovascular Institute. He specializes in multimodality imaging and sees patients at the East Providence location.
Prior to joining Brown University Health, he served as an Army cardiologist and general medical officer and research collaborator with the National Insititutes of Health. He served tours as a field surgeon in Kandahar, Afghanistan, where he was the officer in charge of a NATO troop medical clinic, and at Camp Red Cloud in South Korea, where he was in charge of a joint US and South Korean military medical clinic.
He earned the US Army Surgeon General “A” proficiency designator, the highest recognition for professional excellence in the US Army Medical Corps. Since his enlistment as an Army private and training as a Spanish linguist/signals intelligence analyst following high school, he remained in continuous military service and was promoted to colonel before retiring.
Dr. Hulten obtained a medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans. He also earned a master’s degree in public health in epidemiology from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Dr. Hulten completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases, both at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He also completed a clinical and research fellowship in advanced noninvasive cardiovascular imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. Dr. Hulten graduated with honors with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and life sciences from the US Military Academy at West Point.
