Christian Meierhofer is the Deputy Director of the Clinic for Congenital Heart Disease and Pediatric Cardiology at the German Heart Centre Munich. He completed his medical training at the University of Innsbruck. During his time at medical school, he also undertook training at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON. He received his medical degree from the University of Innsbruck.
Dr Meierhofer completed his residency in general pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital in Innsbruck. He then pursued fellowship training in pediatric cardiology at the Children’s Hospital in Innsbruck and at the German Heart Centre Munich. He has been an attending physician in Pediatric Cardiology at the German Heart Centre Munich since he joined the faculty in 2008. In Munich, he has continued to specialize in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and has completed his training in adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD). He also obtained a doctorate from the Technical University of Munich. He holds full board certification in pediatric cardiology, neonatology, intensive care, and emergency medicine. Dr Meierhofer received a Level III certification for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance from the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) and from the German Society of Cardiology (DGK). He is the Programme Director of CMR training at the German Heart Centre Munich.
Dr. Meierhofer’s research interests have focused in the early stages on drug induced immunomodulation. Now his research topics focus mainly on cardiovascular magnetic resonance and congenital heart disease. His main interest in CMR is focused on cardiac catheterization in the MRI environment and the evaluation of flow patterns in the aorta by 4-dimensional flow analysis. Dr. Meierhofer has published numerous articles and has been honored by research awards.
