I love clinical medicine, cardiovascular physiology, as witnessed by advanced multimodality imaging. I just joined Virginia Heart and the INOVA Heart & Vascular Institute after moving from Kansas City, Missouri, where I spent 10 years at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute developing advanced cardiac imaging in cardiovascular magnetic resonance (MR) in coordination with computerized tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET).
I became interested in Cardiology because of the physical exam, specifically the able to hear. Being able to hear someone’s story about their symptoms, and then hearing something in the lungs or the heart, that corresponded to that patient’s problem was both intellectually and professionally satisfying. In high school, I loved science, but I wanted it to connect with us in a human way.” My goal is to help patients take advantage of their health in fulfilling ways.
I love valve disease, ischemic cardiomyopathy (especially stress perfusion) and evaluating nonischemic cardiomyopathies.
I earned my medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and performed a combined internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Texas Houston. I completed a fellowship in Adult Cardiology at Washington University in Saint Louis/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where i remained on faculty after graduation before going to Kansas City.
I am the proud father of three active boys.
