Jorge Gonzalez, MD, is the director of advanced cardiovascular imaging (Cardiac CT and MRI) for Scripps Clinic. Since he joined the group in the summer of 2016, Dr. Gonzalez has created a Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Clinic, recognized as the first Center of Excellence for this condition in San Diego county. He also created an Aorta Imaging Clinic serving patients with thoracic aortic aneurysms. He serves as Director of both clinics in Scripps Clinic La Jolla. He spends 30% of his time reading Cardiac CT-MRI studies besides running a general Cardiology practice from Scripps Clinic in La Jolla and Mission Valley locations.
Dr. Gonzalez earned his medical degree from The Central University of Venezuela, Luis Razetti School of Medicine, in Caracas, Venezuela (2004 -Universidad Central de Venezuela, Escuela Luis Razetti) and completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Subsequently, he completed a two-year fellowship sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH) in advanced cardiovascular imaging at the University of Virginia under the mentorship of Dr. Christopher Kramer and Dr. Michael Salerno. While at UVA he trained under Cardiologists, Radiologists and Biomedical Engineers in Clinical and research Imaging dedicating his time exclusively in Cardiac CT and MRI.
