Chris Macgowan, PhD is a Professor of Medical Biophysics and Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto and a Senior Scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He has an undergraduate degree in Physics from the University of British Columbia, Canada (1989-1993) and obtained his graduate training (MSc, PhD) from the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, Canada (1993-2000). His research interests include cardiovascular function, with a focus on blood flow quantified by MRI. Over the last 15 years, Dr. Macgowan has developed methods to evaluate fetal cardiovascular physiology including blood flow, blood oxygenation and hematocrit using MRI with the goal of better understanding normal growth and the impact of pathologies such as congenital heart disease and placental insufficiency on fetal development.
