Petronella embarked on her MRI career over twenty years ago at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. She spearheaded the expansion of MRI applications from neuro- and MSK exams to advanced cardiovascular MR. Guiding the MR team since 2009, she mentored professionals, lectured on MRI principles, and forged strong ties with radiologists and clinicians. As head radiographer at Cape Universities Body Imaging Centre (CUBIC), she contributes to a multidisciplinary team with state-of-the-art 3T and mobile 0.64 Hyperfine MRI systems. Passionate about cardiac imaging, she supports local colleagues, co-authored eight publications, and graduated with a Master of Science degree in 2021, focusing on African health challenges. Her research journey includes awards and speaking engagements at conferences like ISMRT and SCMR. Elected onto the ISMRT Governing Board in 2022, she now serves as Chair of the Annual Meeting Program for the 2025 annual meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is a key member of the ISMRM-African Chapter's executive board. Beyond work, she treasures family moments and hobbies like hiking and dancing, aspiring to summit Mount Kilimanjaro and dance with a Strictly Come Dancing pro.
