Currently serving as Chief of the Advanced Cardiovascular Diagnostics program at the regional
healthcare unit (Umbria), where in 2021 he established a state-of-the-art advanced cardiovascular
imaging service, including Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR), Coronary CT and
transesophageal echocardiography featuring at national and international medical conferences.
Dr. Cardona holds the highest level of expertise in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (level
III certified by SCMR and EACVI) and Cardiac CT with several thousands of cardiovascular
MRI and CT exams performed.
Dr. Andrea Cardona graduated cum laude from the University of Perugia – School of Medicine,
Italy. Upon obtaining the US ECFMG certification, Dr. Cardona successfully completed a two-
year fellowship program in Advanced Cardiovascular Diagnostics at The Ohio State University
(Columbus, USA) world-leading center for cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Cardona trained under
the mentorship of Prof. Subha Raman (former director of the Advanced Cardiovascular
Diagnostics program at OSU and former president of SCMR).
Andrea Cardona is the only European physician ever appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor at
The Ohio State University within the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.
He holds a Ph.D. in Translational Medicine and is an expert in Telemonitoring, Telehealth, and
smart heart monitoring devices.
Actively involved in the CMR community, he currently serves as chair of the SCMR
Translations Committee and is a member of the CMR working group within the Italian Society
of Cardiology. He is also involved in CMR education, having participated as faculty/instructor in
several national and international medical conferences. Additionally, he serves as an author for
the American College of Cardiology Self-Assessment Program (ACCSAP) for the advanced
cardiovascular diagnostic section.
