Professor of Biomedical Engineering
Auckland Bioengineering Institute, New Zealand
Professor Martyn P. Nash, PhD, University of Auckland, New Zealand.
Following a PhD on biomechanics of the beating heart, Martyn spent six years at Oxford University studying the electrical activity of healthy and diseased hearts, and recorded and analysed electrical fibrillation in patients at the Heart Hospital in London. He joined the University of Auckland (NZ) in 2003 as an academic in the Department of Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering, and has worked with many researchers at the nexus of bioengineering, medical imaging, clinical science and data science. Martyn has a wide variety of research interests including cardiac mechanics, breast cancer imaging, skin bioengineering, pelvic floor mechanics, medical imaging and electro-mechanical modelling. Martyn presently leads a team of reseachers working on cardiac imaging, tissue structure, and mechanics using personalised computational models of the heart with applications in clinical cardiology.
