Uyen Truong, MD, is an Associate Professor of George Washington University in Washington, DC. She serves as the Director of Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging and the Interim Medical Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory at Children’s National Hospital. She also serves as the Co-Director the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship. Her primary research uses MRI to derive hemodynamic data conventionally obtained from invasive measures of cardiac catheterization. Utilization of echocardiogram and MRI are critical in caring for children and their full capability to determine data on the state of the disease has yet to be determined. Her team evaluated the utility of 4-dimensional flow MRI in characterizing the vasculature of these children, as well as the applying concepts of fluid dynamics and physics of advanced MRI sequences to better understand flow characterization. Her work also expands to using non-invasive imaging to elucidate the pathophysiology of other major pediatric vascular diseases, early vascular aging, diabetes, obesity, and people who have experienced adverse childhood events.
